Erika’s Virtual Learning Lesson Reflection Video

Hello, I’m Erika Martin. I did my virtual
lesson for a fourth-grade classroom, and I did it over the mammal animal group.
Overall, I thought my lesson turned out well. I think that my lesson overview, at
the beginning, was very beneficial because it’s always nice to get the
rundown of what you are learning before it’s thrown at you. I also think the
pictures throughout my lesson were good visuals. They helped to keep my students
engaged and it’s always nice to have visuals of what you are learning,
especially if you aren’t learning this in person. I thought my presentation is
organized well, it’s not too distracting, but it was still engaging and very
informational. For futuristic purposes, though, there’s a lot I need to work on. I
won’t be putting the link of my Google Form in my next presentation because
there’s no point, because the students can’t even access that form through the
link. So, I also need to work on my closed captioning editing skills because when I
went through to edit my captions in my virtual lesson, I only focused on editing
spelling errors. So, I didn’t add any punctuation, which made that super hard
for my students to follow along and understand the lesson. So next time I
need to make sure that I focus on both spelling and grammar errors. Also, due to
the loss of my voice, I wasn’t even able to use my own voice
in the presentation, which bugged me. So next time I’m gonna be more aware of
inconveniences like that that’ll happen, and I’ll do my presentation earlier. I
also want to work on making my presentation more entertaining, whether
that’s through my voice or adding other video resources, for example. Like one of
my peers used an outside resource in her video, or her presentation, and it kept
the students engaged and I thought that was a really great addition. I also liked
how my other peer used arrows and circles to highlight certain areas of
the presentation. I thought that was a great way to keep the students engaged
and keep their thoughts organized, while following along through the presentation.
So those are two additions I will consider in my future virtual lessons.
Overall, this was a very informational project. I first off learned how to make
a virtual lesson in general, which is a skill I will definitely be using in
my future. I also thought… well I’ve always thought that I’d be more of an in-
class and textbook based classroom, but I learned that making virtual lessons can
be a great way of switching up teaching and learning. They allow for more time in
class for my students to work on assignments, or projects, or even ask
questions that they may have. So overall, I learned that making these virtual
learning lessons can be a very beneficial way of learning and a sufficient way of
teaching, and I really liked it.
